Players are dealt their hands, and the remaining cards form the draw pile. One card is placed face-up to start the discard pile.
Gameplay
- On each turn, a player must start by drawing one card from either the draw pile or the discard pile. If a player draws from the discard pile, they must use that card immediately to create a set or run.
- After drawing, the player may choose to lay down sets or runs on the table, adding to those previously played or starting new ones. Players can also add to their own or other players’ sets and runs.
- The turn ends by discarding one card onto the discard pile.
- Shanghai Rummy is played over ten rounds. The player with the lowest score after ten rounds wins the game.

- Meld: A combination of three or four cards of the same rank or a sequence of three or more cards of the same suit.
